California Dreaming: Spotlight on Hollywood’s Nightlife Scene

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

There is probably no neighborhood in the world as notorious as Hollywood.  Simultaneously conjuring old cinematic icons, glitsy glam cliches, where decadence and urban decay walk side-by-side taking in sketchy strip clubs and world premiere palatial theaters in one glance.  Los Angeles natives know all too well the great ironies at play on the boulevard of the stars.  Luckily for them, and for anyone visiting the sunny city, a certain type of nightlife rennaissance (or revival, depending on your viewpoint) is in full swing on Hollywood Boulevard. This is an area with a reputation stretching way back to the sixties and seventies, and revisiting it today, it certainly doesn’t disappoint. There is a virtual plethora of bars and clubs up and down the streets of Hollywood (out to the northwest of the Downtown area) and, running parallel to it, on the ‘Sunset Strip’ of Sunset Boulevard.

Here are some highlights in the area:

The Hideout: A new restaurant-and-bar concept, The Hideout is housed in the recently renovated Hollywood Heights Hotel merely a stone’s throw from the Hollywood Bowl, serving some expertly crafted cocktails and a menu of heartwarming comfort food.

The Standard Hotel in West Hollywood provided LA party-goers with a reliable party destination on Sunset Avenue, however its the rooftop bar of its second venture, The Standard Downtown, that has really making a splash these days.

Boardner’s provides all of the art deco atmosphere that cinefiles adore combined with a killer, bust-a-move dance party.  It’s all that you could hope for in Hollywood.

OBar stakes its claim in the mixology world with wonderfully inventive cocktails. Stop by on a Monday and sample them all, during their generous, all night happy hour.
